Assault on Devendra Yadav

Chandrashekhar the Great

SHRI CHANDRA SHEKHAR (Ballia, U.P.) :

Mr. Speaker, Sir, I know Shri Devendra Prasad since his student life. I am very much aware of the role he played during the Jai Prakash movement. Yesterday I was not here and whatever incident has taken place there, I came to know about it through the newspapers. Today whatever Shri Deve Gowdaji narrated is very painful. But more painful is that while this issue is being discussed in this House, the Delhi police is still playing old trick and they are still arresting the people. Probably, this may be the only incident in the history of Parliament when such issue is being discussed in the House, At least those police officials should exercise restraint while restoring to such measures. If they are not restraining themselves, then Mr. Speaker, Sir, through you I would like to urge Advaniji to do something to restrain these officials.

This issue is not just a issue of insulting Member of Parliament, of lathi charge over some people but it is related to demeaning the dignity of the Parliament. If police officials can go to such an extent, then I don’t think whether democracy will survive or not. It is a very serious matter and immediate action must be taken in this regard. I hope Home Minister will take this matter more seriously.

SHRI CHANDRA SHEKHAR (Ballia, U.P) :

Sir, Shri Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi raised an important question that concerns the whole nation. He was raising the matter of policy. The Government, run by the majority, cannot take a decision to sell away the property of this nation. Even the House has to respond to people’s rights and aspirations in doing this thing. If one Minister says that he has every right to sell away the property even without the sanction of Parliament, then Shri Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi is very much entitled to make this allegation or whatever you may say. ...(Interruptions)

SHRI CHANDRA SHEKHAR :

I know how to help myself.

He has raised a matter of policy. He has said that it should be inquired into or it should be investigated or discussed in Parliament. Dr. Malhotra has said that in a particular case the Government of Delhi has taken Rs. 4,000 crore. ...(Interruptions)

SHRI CHANDRA SHEKHAR :

I am not hard of hearing. He said that Rs. 4,000 crore was taken by the Congress Party. ...(Interruptions) I have heard it. ...(Interruptions)

SHRI CHANDRA SHEKHAR :

Mr. Speaker, Sir, you should go into the record. Dr. Malhotra is guilty of changing his statement. Such frivolous statements should not be made in the House in defence of something which is against the interest of the nation. You are selling away the future of the nation and you are guilty of it. ...(Interruptions)
